Honing Process
1. Setup: The honing tube is inserted into the bore of the workpiece. The abrasive stones are expanded to make contact with the bore's surface.
2. Rotation and Reciprocation: The honing tube rotates while simultaneously moving back and forth (reciprocating) within the bore. This combined motion creates a cross-hatch pattern on the surface, which is beneficial for oil retention in engine cylinders.
3. Material Removal: The abrasive stones gradually remove small amounts of material, refining the bore's diameter, roundness, and surface finish.
4. Finishing: The process continues until the desired dimensions and surface finish are achieved. The honing tube is then retracted, and the workpiece is removed.
